Kano Assembly Passes Bill To Reduce Emir Sanusi’s Powers

Kano State House of Assembly On Wednesday passed the bill for the creation of four additional first-class Emirates, NAIJAPARRY has learned.

Rano, Gaya, Karaya and Bichi are the new Emirates.

The passage of this bill, this news medium understands, paves way for the decentralisation of the Kano Emirate council, thereby decentralising the powers of Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The creation of the Emirates followed the approval of the amendment of the local government and chieftaincy affairs law by the lawmakers.

In a motion presented to the House by the Majority Leader Baffa Babba, the House unanimously agreed that creation of more Emirates would help in job creation, dispute, and community conflict resolutions among others.

But the State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, must sign the bill before it becomes law.
